BRETOWN NEWTOWN

WHERE:  6-8 O’Connel St, Newtown  9519 2920

There is no better way to end the long afternoon or  meal with a good coffee.

Atmosphere: The high ceiling industrial looking building located around the main street of Newtown, is buzzing with many diners. Once stepping inside this cafe, dim lighting and cool breeze traveling from outside gave this place a nice and relaxing feel. There is a choice to sit along  the table top stand or on table aligned in the center of the store. The setting of this cafe is quite interesting.

As we walked to our table we noticed cronuts on virtually every table. I heard the word cronut at least 20 times, it surely had to be a winner.

Service: We were placed on the waiting list by the friendly gentleman, but we were asked to wait 15 minutes due to the cafe being at full capacity. We were given sparkling water once seated. This questioned the fact that isn't sparkling water expensive, as it is provided in restaurants? We were not complaining, it just sparked our curiosity.

Food: Menus on cardboard pin boards seems to be a trend these days. There was a decent amount of items on the menu list, however we only came here for coffee as we had lunch beforehand.

We are always in search of good coffee. The coffee Mocha had a good balance of both chocolate and coffee. The ice coffee is the way ice coffee is to be made. No added ice cream, syrup or cream. Just coffee shot, milk and ice. To C, real coffee drinkers should not add any sugar to their coffee, to genuinely appreciate the real taste of the coffee crema along with the smoothness of the milk.

These cronuts were a little bit different to Zumbo's and personally probably even a bit better as they don't have the sweet filling. Don't get me wrong, these little cinnamon pastries are light, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The cronut peals into thin layers which are really easy to eat. One is just not enough. Unfortunately it was pretty late during the afternoon and most of them were sold out, even the glazed cronut that we did not have the opportunity to try. These are really popular, seeing a patron ordering a great amount to take home with him.

If you are planning to visit, make sure you get in line early. We are definitely going to come back here next time to taste the other food items on the menu.

Much love J and C
