UNCLE TETSU

WHERE: 501 George Street Sydney.

Japanese cheesecake (Hokkaido), one of the most popular desserts Japan is known for.

I had the chance to try Uncle Tetsu's Cheesecake. As i was walking home the anticipation built up and i was wondering if it lives up to the immense hype.

A few friends told me to put it in the fridge as they believed it tastes better that way. I tried it when it was warm and as i prefer cakes as if it just came out of the oven.

Mum being quite a baker herself, said it wasn't cheesy enough and that they did not use enough egg yolk, just whites. The eggy taste was overpowering than the cheese. Feeling a little disappointed that the flavour was not strong enough. It was just missing something. The honey madeleines ($4.00) that was sold individually rated better in my humble opinion.

It may of been because this joint was making so many at a time that the workers had no quality control in the ingredients as it just did not hit the spot, after one or two slices. It was alright but not amazing, unfortunately.

Would I line up again, probably not. However I am excited to try this cake in Japan next year and hopefully this time it will make up for this one.

LEFT OF FIELD, RHODES

WHERE: Shop 3, 7 Gauthorp Street, Rhodes Sydney.

Very busy for a Saturday morning. Was given the option to sit outside but it was really windy that day, so did not mind waiting for a seat inside. The interior of LOF was very modern, full of light with high ceilings.

Great service at LOF. Waitress at LOF asked how we heard about this place and I instantly replied "instagram." Just came here for the hotcakes and coffee. The earl grey flavoured sauce was subtle and I wouldn't mind for more! It was enough to share for two as the portion is generous.
